Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What IELTS band score do I need for university admission?
Top-ranked universities typically require 7.0–7.5+ overall band score with no section below 6.5. Some universities accept 6.5 for general admission, but competitive programs prefer 7.0+. Check your target university's specific requirements.
How many times can I retake the IELTS?
There is no limit on IELTS retakes. You can take the test as many times as needed. However, IELTS scores are valid for only 2 years, so plan your retakes accordingly.
What is the difference between paper and computer-based IELTS?
Both formats are equivalent in difficulty and scoring. The main differences: Computer-based is faster (results in 3–5 days vs. 13 days for paper), and you type essays on computer (vs. handwriting). Choose based on your comfort level.
Can IELTS scores be used for US university admissions?
Yes! Many US universities now accept IELTS in place of TOEFL. However, TOEFL remains more widely accepted. Check your target US university's admissions policy for IELTS acceptance.
